Day 167 - Sunday, September 26, 2021

Today is hopefully our last day of “Rocksylvannia” rocks and boulders. AWOL has a note saying the trail is “very rocky” from PA 274 to the pipeline at 1142.9 NoBo.

Tomorrow’s weather is looking great and Tuesday is not looking good so we are switching up our hiking schedule. We are doing Wednesday’s 19.8 mile long hike tomorrow, Monday’s 17.3 mile hike on Tuesday’s hike (in the rain 🥴), then doing Monday’s shorter 13.3 mile hike on Wednesday. This will get us on the road about 3 hours earlier as we are off trail for 5 days starting Thursday.  When we return, we will do the final 4 hikes completing our thru hike ! Scheduled date of completion is Saturday, October 9th 🎉🎊🍾!

Today we are hiking from the Susquehanna River, North end of Clark’s Ferry Bridge, US 22/322 (1151.3 NoBo) to Sherwood Drive (1145.3 NoBo) for a total of 16.0 miles.

We began hiking at 8:30 am.

Crossing the Susquehanna River.

Hiking into Duncannon, PA.

Looking for my brother Dave; he wasn’t there 🙄.

Just as I was afraid of… turns out AWOL was corrrct and we had several more miles of rocks to contend with 🥴.

Lots of debris laying across the trail from last Wednesday storms.

Hiking through farmers pastures between PA 850 and Millers Gap Road.

Going through the PA 944 tunnel.

We finished hiking at 4:00 pm.

Appalachian Trail Countdown:
Total trail miles: 2084.1 miles
Trail miles left to go: 109.0 miles

Till next time... Happy Hiking    🥾

😋

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
