Day 164 - Thursday, September 23, 2021

Well today turned out to be a “Zero”. It started to rain as we were driving to the trailhead and by the time we got there it turned into a monsoon (just short of a hurricane) - as predicted ๐Ÿฅด. Flash flood warning were in effect with up to 4” of rain expected. As much as we wanted to hike to stay on schedule, it was a no brainer to call it a day. The trail should be an absolute joy to hike on tomorrow … and will be a muddy mess  ๐Ÿคฏ ๐Ÿคฌ.

So with our now free time we stopped at a local restaurant for breakfast… this was supposed to be an egg and ham on an English muffin.

It looked like “Spam” to me and worse yet, it tasted like it ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ. Thankfully the coffee was good and strong to wash it down ๐Ÿฅด.  It was certainly nothing even close to the fantastic meals that Jean and Sharon Riccio made for us last weekend when they came down to the area to join us and visit.  Thank you again!  I apologize for not mentioning it sooner but I’ve been a little busy hiking … mea culpa ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป.

The day wasn’t a total loss as I finally got in touch with my insurance company where a terrific claims specialist named Victoria scheduled the damage appraisal back in Syracuse, the towing and set up the rental vehicle for me.

So no changes to any trail mileage today but we will be back on the trail tomorrow whittling away at them ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป .

Till next time... Happy Hiking   ๐Ÿฅพ

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
