Day 160 - Sunday, September 19, 2021

The last couple hike’s trail conditions have been the typical “Rocksylvannia” trail conditions that you always read about in the AT journals and blogs… rocks, rocks and more rocks. You are able to still hike reasonable trail miles but the constant pounding on the bottom of your feet does take it toll. You are always happy when the day comes to an end and you can rest your feet πŸ™πŸ».

Today we are hiking from Parking Lot off Hawk Mountain Road (1234.0 NoBo) to Schuykill Trail, Port Clinton, PA (1219.6 NoBo) for a total of  14.4 miles. We hit another significant milestone with the completion of today’s hike - we will have less than 200 trail miles left to complete our AT thru hike (193.3 miles) πŸŽ‰. We will surpass 2000 total trail miles with tomorrow’s hike πŸ€—

We began hiking at 9:20 am.

Still making our way through Pennsylvania’s rock covered trails.

One potato, two potato, three potato four… whatever it takes to make it through the day πŸ₯΄πŸ˜΅‍πŸ’«.

Views from Pulpit Rock.

The Pinnacle.

We are walking down the trail along a section of a woods road when I hear what I was pretty sure sounded like a small child scream… it turns out it was Turtle Power as he nearly stepped on this 5 foot black snake  πŸ˜‚. I know my hearing isn’t what it use to be but that’s what it sounded like to me πŸ™„.

We finished hiking at 4:00 pm. The trails were crowded with weekend section hikers and day hikers. It was a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors.

Appalachian Trail Countdown:
Total trail miles: 1999.8 miles
Trail miles left to go: 193.3 miles

Till next time... Happy Hiking  πŸ₯Ύ

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
