Day 158 - Friday, September 17, 2021

We are entering our third day of hiking in “Easylvania” πŸ™„ so I’ll be curious of what the trail conditions have in store for us today.

Today we are hiking from Little Gap Road, Danielsville, PA (1265.2 NoBo) to Bake Oven Knob Road (1251.3 NoBo) for a total of  13.9 miles.

We began hiking at 9:30 am.

Well, it didn’t take long to find out. The trail is a lot more rocky than we have encountered, oh well πŸ₯΄πŸ₯΅πŸ˜.

The Bake Oven Knob Shelter.

Different clubs are assigned different sections of the AT to maintain. The Keystone Trail Association maintain the section we are hiking today. Pennsylvania doesn’t mark the trails as well as other states.

State Game Lands (public land for hunting) marker.

The George W. Outerbridge Shelter.

Our next climb out of Lehigh Gap; known for it’s rock steep slopes 😬.

Trail sign in Lehigh Gap.

Crossing  PA 873 over Lehigh River.

Looking back at Lehigh River.

Making 1000’ ascent and rock climb out of Lehigh Gap.

The old Trail relocation marker.

View from Superfund detour route.

We finished hiking at 5:00 pm. There were a few cobble and boulder sections that we had to make our way through.

Appalachian Trail Countdown:
Total miles: 1968.1 miles
Trail miles left to go: 225.0 miles

Till next time... Happy Hiking  πŸ₯Ύ

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
