Day 155 - Tuesday, September 14, 2021

It rained last night and into the morning as forecasted but we are starting late to allow for favorable weather and trail conditions; and we are only hiking 11.1 miles which we should knock out in 5+ hours and still have time to relax, have dinner and prepare for tomorrow’s hike -  the Life of a slack packer πŸ˜‰!

Today’s hike will complete New Jersey and go into, starting Pennsylvania; only 2 states left πŸ•ΊπŸΌ! We are hiking from Camp Road (1307.0 NoBo) to Hikers Parking lot (1295.9 NoBo) for a total of  11.1 miles.

We begin hiking at 11:00 am.

We thought this sign was funny being in our daily starting pic… until we did start the wrong way 😳🀭πŸ₯΄. We were about a mile into our hike when we realized that the Delaware River was on our left side as we hiked 😳, not our right side… duh!

This was all we needed a little while ago.

Bridge approach over I80/Delaware River.

These bugs were all over the sidewalk… ?

Don’t all Turtles go to the beach  πŸ™„πŸ˜?

This is  “Greg In Wild”  (the real Rodger Carpenter) who is from Portland, Oregon. He started from Katahdin on June 23rd. It’s amazing who you meet on the trail.

Leave no trace… the next rain will erase this πŸ˜‰.

Meet “Ben” and “Shower Beer” who are from Minnesota and Texas, respectively. They started from Katahdin on June 25th. “Ben” doesn’t have a trail name yet… will have to come up with one for him. You know it’s customary for a thru hiker to give another thru hiker their trail name if they don’t have one πŸ€”πŸ˜‰.

Sunfish Pond.

Kittatinny Mountain summit.

An old picture in the Mohican Outdoor Center lodge with AT timelines… some of the records here have or will be broken this year! Zoom in on pic to guess which ones. I’ll give you one: the youngest to ever thru hike the AT was 5 and his trail name is “Little Man “ (2021).

We finished hiking at 5:00… so much for an early day πŸ₯΄.

Appalachian Trail Countdown:
Total trail miles: 1923.5 miles
Trail miles left to go: 269.6 miles

Till next time... Happy Hiking  πŸ₯Ύ

πŸ˜‹

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”

                  (Appalachian Trail Conservancy)

Comments
