Day 148 - Tuesday, September 7, 2021
Today will be our second full day of hiking in the state of Massachusetts. We’re hoping to complete Massachusetts in five hikes then continuing in New Jersey where we stopped hiking last February due to the heavy snow.
The trail conditions are slowly improving and more manageable to hike with each day of no rain. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will continue a few more days.
Today we continue hiking from MA 8, Cheshire, MA (1581.4 NoBo) to Blotz Road (1565.8 NoBo) equaling 15.6 miles.
We began hiking at 9:00 am under sunny skies.
Hey isn’t that Joe Arcuri Sr. aka “Chief Snow” or is it “Cheese Show”? “Chief” is joining us for a few days getting a piece of the Appalachian Trail experience. Welcome aboard “Chief Snow” and Happy Trails!

Lead, follow or get out of the way “Splinter”. I’m passing you on the left π.
And getting a closer look…
A local hiker patron in Dalton keeps trekking poles for hikers use to make repairs. He also provides trail magic and lets hikers camp in his front yard. Thank you for your generosity and making your home a hikers home on the trail!

Glad to be making the final descent into Cheshire, MA.
We finished hiking at 6:00 pm… another great day to be hiking π₯³.
Till next time... Happy Hiking π₯Ύ

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
(Appalachian Trail Conservancy)

You two, Splinter and Turtle Power, are insane thru-hikers!!! I hiked only a small piece of what you hiked in total and my hike terrain was nowhere near the difficulty you have done! Thank you for letting me join you guys for a few days!
