Day 142 - Tuesday, August 31, 2021

Where has the summer gone. It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of August already. Schools will be starting in another week. My Grandsons in Alabama  have been back to school for 2 weeks already. I’m glad that everyone is going back to school rather than the covid classrooms they attended last year via Zoom. Returning to normalcy is a good thing πŸ˜‰.

Today we are hiking in the Green Mountain National Forest from US 4 (1704.1 NoBo) to Keifer Road (1690.0 NoBo) equaling 14.1 miles.

With today’s hike we are also breaking the sub 500 trail miles left to hike; 499.5 trail miles to go πŸŽ‰… but who’s counting πŸ˜‰πŸ™„.

We began hiking at 9:00 am; the temperature was only 62° but it is expected to reach almost 80.

I don’t know who marked the 500 mile mark but I think it’s about 10 miles off when comparing the location to AWOL πŸ€”.

The picture doesn’t show you the magnitude of the entire drop off as this embankment is over 50 feet high.

This 500 trail miles marker from Katahdin is a still a little off but more accurate than the previous marker. The Governor Clement Shelter at 2693.5 NoBo is actually very close πŸ™„.

Appalachian Trail / Long Trail marker.

The Cooper Lodge Shelter is very close to the Pico Ski Resort summit.

Chairlift at Pico Ski Resort summit.

Whoever made this 1700 NoBo miles from Springer marker is close 😳.

3.8 miles to go… but it is all downhill πŸ˜‰.

We finished hiking at 5:10 pm.

Till next time... Happy Hiking  πŸ₯Ύ

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
