Day 134 - Friday, August 20, 2021
Today will be a “Nero” as that was the only option we had to slack pack and you know how we just love “slack packing”. I’m going to drive my own car so we can leave as soon as we finish and not wait for the shuttle because they are going to be busy with food drops and shuttling other hikers.
This is “Swamp Iris” & “Sugar Girl”. They are flip floppers too and started February 16th. We’ve met them sever times on the trail… they never know what direction they will see us coming 🥴. Sometimes neither do we 😂.
Today we are continuing hiking the 100 Mile Wilderness from Gravel Road by south end Nahmakanta Lake (2151.9 NoBo) to Polywog Stream (2160.5 NoBo) for a total of 8.4 miles.
We began hiking at 7:00 am and the relative humidity had to be 100% already…🥵

Even though today was a short hike it was still very challenging. And the humidity only made it worse. I think I drank nearly 5 L of water. A couple sections were infested with roots and rocks making every step a potential ankle twister 🤯.
But the Trail Angel with her “trail magic” made for the perfect ending 👼.
Till next time... Happy Hiking 🥾
😋
“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
