Day 133 - Thursday, August 19, 2021

The hostel was buzzing with activity this morning with nearly 75 hikers staying here last night; over 50 hikers were signed up for the breakfast but Hippie Chic made sure we were fed in time to make our shuttle at 7:30 am. How’s that for customer service - not like the no customer service that I’m currently dealing with Salomon over a pair of gore-Tex boots that are under warranty 😡.

Today we are continuing our “Ultimate Platinum Slack Pack” through the 100 Mile Wilderness hiking from Jo-Mary Road (2137.1 NoBo) to Gravel Road by south end Nahmakanta Lake (2151.9 NoBo) for a total 14.8 miles.

We began hiking at 10:00 am; a later start than normal due to the almost 2 hour commute to the trailhead 🥴.

Hiking along the Nahmakanta  Stream.

Trail became much more manageable after traversing over a mile of wet ornery roots.

I didn’t know moose’s could spell? (That’s right, it’s made from moose droppings 🙄😝).

Another view of Mt. Katahdin from Pemadumkook Lake. The summit was not visible due to the low clouds. We’re hoping for a clear day when we summit on Monday 🙏🏻🤞🏻.

This is the Potaywadjo Spring where we resupplied water from. It’s so crystal clear that it looks empty but the water level was up to the bottom of the board. It was ice cold too; absolutely the best water we drank on the entire AT 😉.

Standing on the sandy beach on lower Jo-Mary Lake.

Till next time... Happy Hiking  🥾

😋

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
