Day 128 - Saturday, August 14, 2021

So we weren’t exactly where thought we were yesterday when we started hiking. It turns out we were approximately 2.5 miles further south which made yesterday’s hike shorter but today’s hike that much longer.  Total mileage for both days will be the same as per AWOL so I’m not adjusting my starts and stops 🀫.

So with that in mind, today we are hiking from Bald Mountain Road (2064.6 NoBo) to ME 15 (2078.6 NoBo) for a total 14.0 miles which was really 16.5+ miles πŸ₯΄.

We had a 5:30 am shuttle and began hiking at 6:00 am.

Today’s hike was technically easy as the trail was fairly uniform (not many rocks & roots) and there weren’t any difficult climbs πŸ™πŸ». Until it began raining, let me clarify, it began pouring around 10:00 am and turned the trail into your worse enemy 🀬. It poured for over an hour…

Fording the East Branch of Piscataquis River.

I don’t know what time it is… it’s Saturday!

Lake Hebron.

We were getting close to finishing our hike for the day. About 1.5 miles from ME 15 and look who we run into… Nimblewill Nomad aka “Sunny” Eberhart. He just finished climbing Katahdin and was hiking SoBo filling in some gaps. We chatted for a few minutes and continued in our separate directions. It was great to see “Sunny” again. Happy Trails!

Sunny” was accompanied by his good friend and hiking companion “T-Bone”.

Great way to end our day… we finished hiking at 3:00 pm under partly sunny skies.

Till next time... Happy Hiking  πŸ₯Ύ

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
