Day 123 - Sunday, August 8, 2021
Yesterday’s hike is nothing but a memory. I’m glad that it’s behind us! But today’s a new day with sunny skies And its going to get warmer with temperatures in the upper 70s low 80s.
Today’s hike is continuing from Caribou Valley Road (1996.6 NoBo) to ME 27 (2004.9 NoBo) equaling 8.3 miles plus the additional .6 miles we had to walk from the car to the trailhead.
We started hiking at 10:00 am, little later than usual as it was almost a “Nero”.
As usual, a climb right out of the box…
Views from North Cracker Mountain.
We turned the corner and walked right up to a partridge and her poults in the middle of the trail. They were dusting themselves. We got within 3 feet of them and they didn’t have a care in the world. I threw them a few nuts I had in my pouch but I don’t think they knew what they where 🥴.
A hiker marked the trail at the approximate 2000 mile location from Springer Mountain.
Till next time... Happy Hiking 🥾
😋
“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
