Day 119 - Tuesday, August 3, 2021
🎼 Hi ho, hi ho it’s up the hill I go 😳.
Surplus Pond which has native Brook Trout in it - only fly fishing is allowed to avoid invasive fish species from entering the pond.
We have seen lots of evidence of moose in the woods 💩 but this was the 1st recognizable track that we have come across. Just to give you better perspective of how big the track is - the Gu package is about 4” long. I was amazed how wide a moose track is but then again a full grown moose can be 6.5 ft tall from the hoof to its shoulder and weight over 1200 lbs.
View from Wyman Mountain.
The Hall Mountain Lean-to.
Meet “Scrunch”, we never did find out how she got that trail name 🤔. “Scrunch” is from Pennsylvania and is a SoBo thru hiker. She left Katahdin June 16th. “Scrunch” section hiked the AT NoBo from Pennsylvania to Katahdin in 2017. Why she didn’t flip-flop and finish to Springer is anyone’s guess. What’s the saying about “youth” being wasted on the young? 😉. Happy trails “Scrunch”!
Rock “hoppin” across a local stream.
Just .1 mile to go 🎉.
The AT crossing at South Arm Road. I wish NH used a fraction of white paint that Maine does to “blaze” the trail. Blazes were rare in New Hampshire and you could sometimes wander off the designated trail due to the lack of blazes 😡.
Is this a turtle crossing or did someone trip and fall 😂?
We finished hiking at 2:30 pm under bright sunny skies 😎 and the temperature was 72°.Till next time... Happy Hiking 🥾
😋
“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
(Appalachian Trail Conservancy)
“…severe steep ascent where the elevation increases over 1000 ft in less than 1/2 mile”!! 😬😯
