Day 104 - Wednesday, July 14, 2021

It’s Day 104 of my blog and I think it’s also Day 104 of rain… that’s right, it’s raining again 😵‍💫.  I believe this makes 9 consecutive days of rain. I’m glad I haven’t been on vacation 🤨.

Today we are hiking from Lyme-Dorchester Road (1770.5 NoBo) to NH 25A (1784.6 NoBo) equaling 14.1 miles. According to AccuWeather the rain should be stopped by the time we get to the trail 🤞🏻.

We began hiking at 8:30 am under cloudy skies; the temperature was 68° and humidity was 91% 😓.

This is “Bender”. He started at Springer on March 2nd.

Trail was very wet from last nights rain and the day before… and the day before… etc., etc. 😖

Views from Mt. Cube. Low cloud cover til about 11 am when the sun actually came out.

Everyone is trying to stay dry…

And at 1:47 pm Turtle Power slipped to a three point landing on his right knee - I’m starting to even the score little by little. Turtle Power is still up by 1 dinner and 2 drinks. The trail conditions have been so bad the last few days I’m surprised we aren’t on our backs more than our feet 😵‍💫.

Just another “simple” stream crossing. Typically, most of these streams are “puddle jumpers” to cross but that’s not the case lately.

I keep telling myself… “it’s just a walk in the woods.”

This is probably as close we will get to a moose 😳.

We were coming across Smart Mountain and we made it to the Fire Wardens Cabin Shelter just in time as another thunderstorm came through. We stayed there for about a 1/2 hour to let it pass. We almost made it out before the rain.

At least the toadstools and mushrooms are liking the rain.

We finally made it off the trail around 6:30 pm. Now off to our new “base hotel” in Lincoln, NH to dry things out and take a well deserved hot shower 😉.

Till next time... Happy Hiking  🥾

😋

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
