Day 103 - Tuesday, July 13, 2021
I’m getting ready to start building an Arc. It rained all night and was still raining when we got up. Looks like another rain delay and I’m betting we’re going to get wet sometime today as well š š”.
The hike started right off with some “trail magic” as it was set up in the parking lot right off the trail head. You can’t say enough about how much it is appreciated for what the “Trail Angels” do helping hikers.
This was an usual mile post marker - a concrete post with the NoBo mileage engraved into it.
That beaver dam made a mess of the trail that ran adjacent to it. The trail maintenance people already brought in materials to correct the situation.
Today’s hike will take me over a section of the AT in Lyme, NH that my sister Chris hiked. She is no longer able to hike due to the debilitating effects of her MS. I’m dedicating this hike to her… Happy Trails Chris!
Today we are hiking from Three Mile Road (NH) (1759.3 NoBo) to Lyme-Dorchester Road (1770.5 NoBo) equaling 11.2 miles.
My statistician was late reporting to me - yesterday’s hike took us over 1200 trail miles š - 1200.7 miles to be exact š! We just keep chugging along… just 992.4 miles to go š³.
We finally began hiking at 11:30 am. It was still looking very ominous but it is mild; the temperature was 67°.
It started raining just as we left the parking lot but we had to keep going. We already had a good 3 hour rain delay.
This was an usual mile post marker - a concrete post with the NoBo mileage engraved into it.
Meet “Guns” who is from Brooklyn, NY. We actually ran into her yesterday as we got into Lebanon. “Guns” left Springer March 2nd.
There won’t be much of a view with all this low cloud cover š”.

We made it down to Goose Pond Road and ran into “Chuck” aka “The Maine Man” but he lives in New Hampshire š. He has hiked the Whites extensively completing the 48 Peaks 5 times š². Most recently just finishing his last round this past weekend. What’s so impressive about “The Maine Man’s” accomplishments is that his last “peak bagging” that he just completed is the first one since he turned 80. Chuck is 83 years old. Atta boy “Maine Man” š!!! And in his spare time “The Maine Man” hangs out in the rain providing “trail magic” to hikers. Turtle Power and I had a great conversation with Chuck; him sharing his experiences hiking through the Whites and giving us a few tips. We greatly enjoyed our brief time with “The Maine Man” … these are the once in a lifetime memories you hope to acquire on the trail! Happy Trails to “The Maine Man”!
We got one last kiss from a passing cloud… I was never so happy to make it to the car.
We finished hiking at 6:30 pm.
Till next time... Happy Hiking š„¾

“Acts of generosity in this wild and primitive setting…where basic amenities…are intentionally absent–are often received in a heightened sense of wonder and gratitude by hikers. These acts of generosity are referred to as “trail magic.”
