Day 100 - Friday, July 9, 2021

DAY 100 🤩 - who would ever think? Day 1 wasn’t even on my radar screen 2 years ago. I still remember when Turtle Power asked me about doing this way back then. I’m surprised that he even still talks to me; never mind that we are on the trail together from my initial response to him 😳🙄😂. Obviously, I reconsidered 😉.

Well, so far the weatherman is right. I slept in till about 7:15 am and it was pouring. Forecast is calling for rain to last till about 1 pm then clearing up for the remainder of the day. Tomorrow is going to be cooler, sunny and dry! We spent the morning packing gear and having an extra cup of coffee. I gave myself another TENS therapy and did my stretching to help my IT Band/Psoas muscle trigger release issues. We are about an hour from the trailhead so we left around 11 am.

Today we continued hiking from US 7, parking, bridge over Housatonic River (1493.2 NoBo) to Undermountain Road, Salisbury CT (1502.9 NoBo) for a total of  9.7 miles.

We got to the trailhead in Connecticut and began hiking at 12:30 pm. Skies were clear and the temperature was 72°.

My hair is a mess with all the rain and high humidity of lately 😂.

Started off with our typical climb but this one was only around 600 ft. The trail was a little slippery due to yesterday’s and this mornings rain.

These trail markers speaks for themselves…. NoBo hikers are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But the trail is saving the best for last…New Hampshire and Maine.  Happy Trails to all the thru-hikers!

Vista from Rands View.

Storm damage from yesterday’s thunderstorms. I had Turtle Power stand underneath it to give you a better perspective of how big this tree is… 😱.

The Housatonic River’s water levels have risen dramatically the past several days.

Another non-typical forgiving trail section along Falls Village, Warren Turnpike and the Housatanic River in Salisbury, CT. It was so flat that it could be designated handicap accessible. Connecticut has been one of the easier states on the AT. A few pleasant hikes  to rest before you encounter the White Mountains of New Hampshire  and Mt.
Katahdin in Maine. Unfortunately, a damper was but on the easier hiking with all the severe storms this past week.

AT plaque set in the Route 7 bridge over the Housatanic River.

We finished hiking at 5 pm. The weather was spot on as forecasted 😎😱. And next to having an ice cream at the end of a hike; a muscle milk is a close 2nd.

Hoping to wrap up Connecticut tomorrow… 😉.

Till next time... Happy Hiking  🥾
