Day 85 - Tuesday, June 8, 2021
So... today’s hike will be our last hike in North Carolina*(with exception of the Great Smoky Mountains that we are doing starting Monday on our way north) , checking off another state, as we are crossing the North Carolina / Georgia state border. We are definitely on schedule to make Springer Mountain this Saturday!!
“Chicken of the Woods” it’s an edible mushroom. This would give a hiker food for several days - no nutritional value but would fill your belly. Chicken of the Woods
And... today, yes today π, we are hiking from Deep Gap, USFS 71 (85.0 NoBo) to Dicks Creek Gap, US 76 (69.2 NoBo) for a total of 15.8 miles.
The weather for the remainder of the week isn’t looking all that great neither... mid-day showers is forecasted the next three days. If I hike in the rain much more I’ll grows a set of gils π. I think Turtle Power is growing a dorsal fin or it’s a tail as a side effect from his Covid vaccine π€£.
This is “Jurmanji”. He started from Springer on May 26th. This is an “unusual” late start for a NoBo thru-hiker. He said he may flip-flop after he gets to Harpers Ferry and then go SoBo from Katahdin. Even if he began averaging 15 miles/day he wouldn’t reach Harpers Ferry till late August π€ (he’s averaging less than 4 miles/day so far). We wished him good luck.... and a couple booster rockets tied to his feet π€«.

We finished hiking at 5:25 pm. The last 2 miles trail was a rock scramble which slowed our pace a little π€¨. And the weatherman was off a tad as it didn’t rain; but 10 minutes after we were in the truck it rained “cats and dogs”.
Till next time... Happy Hiking π₯Ύ
