Day 63 - Thursday, May 13, 2021
Spring is certainly taking its sweet time to get here. It was another cool night, temperature was 38°. It was a good decision to go to a hotel for sure. Everything is dry and a hot shower was priceless. The next few days are expected to be dry and temperatures are slowly on the upswing.... according to Al Roker 🙄.
Today we hiked from Dennis Cove Road, USFS 50 (420.0 NoBo) to Walnut Mountain Road (405.7) for a total of 14.3 miles. According to our progress and Sunny Eberhart’s itinerary we should pass each other tomorrow.
We began hiking at 10 am.
I’m including pictures I took on today’s hike - not many scenic views hiking in the woods. Enjoy your hike....
Walked up to four deer who didn’t have a care in the world. Obviously they know it’s not hunting season.
The trail has switchbacks on the longer, steeper slopes to make traversing them more palatable. I’m trying to capture the magnitude and steepness of the mountain side. Turtle Power took these pictures from the switchback above me. I’m approximately 85 feet below him.
Finally got some unbelievable views from White Rocks Mountain.
The Moreland Gap Shelter which was built in 1960.
I must’ve gotten my photo folders mixed up.... how did the pic of our new condo in Fort Myers get in here 🤫.
We finished hiking at 5:10 pm. The temperature was 57° under sunny skies... a near perfect day for hiking!
Till next time.... Happy Hiking 🥾
