Day 39 - Saturday, April 3, 2021

Woke up to a chilly temperature of 27° but it is expected to reach the 60’s in the afternoon. We have decided to break up our hike today and do a “Nero” after the long hike yesterday. We are moving our base camp (going to an Airbnb over in Goldbond, VA 😉) today doing a shorter hike will help coordinate that as well.

We are hiking today, continuing from VA 311, Catawba, VA (710.5 NoBo) to VA 624, Newport Road (704.6 NoBo) for a “Nero” of  5.9 miles.

We began hiking at 10:00 am the parking lot at VA 311 was nearly full, we forgot it being a holiday weekend.

Hiking along Catawba Creek.

This gate actually had a spring on it to shut it after you walk through...

This was why.... the pasture was full of beef cattle; but I don’t think they could fit through the gate anyways? They could certainly knock it over if they wanted to. 😮

Our next ascent... just a walk in the woods 🙄.

I told Jim there was some chocolate up there... he’ll do most anything for chocolate 🤣.

We finished hiking at 12:45 pm and it was a bright sunny day. The temperature already rose to 52°.The parking lot was at 110% capacity. I couldn’t believe how inconsiderate people can be. There were cars that were blocked three deep; it’s a good thing I wasn’t one of them... that’s all I’m going to say about that.

Till next time... Happy Hiking  🥾

😋
