Day 27 - Monday, March 22, 2021
We woke up to temperature of 27° and clear skies. Is expected to warm up very quickly and reach nearly 60°.
Today we are hiking back in the George Washington National Forest along the Blue Ridge Parkway from US 250 + Blue Ridge Parkway, Rockfish Gap (864.4 NoBo) to Reeds Gap, VA 664, BRP 13.6 (845.2 NoBo) for a total of 19.2 miles. This section of the Blue Ridge Parkway is still closed due to past winter’s storm damage and there is no other access to the AT except where we are starting and ending. This will also be our longest hike to date.
We are hoping to be boots on the ground by 7:30 am as this hike will take 10 hours to complete. We’ve brought our head lamps just in case 😬.
We were on the trail right at Sunrise, 7:15 am.

Sections of today’s trail were very rugged.
Scenic views from Three Ridges Overlook.
Constant reminders that the AT is closed.
Views of Wintergreen Resort from Humpback Overlook.
Jim has a new pair of hiking gloves... that’s all I’m going to say about that.
We had lunch at the Paul C. Wolfe Shelter.
This is Jim’s lunchbox...
Cabin remnants.
Spring has arrived on the Appalachian Trail.
We finished hiking at 2:55 pm. Temperature was 64° but it didn’t feel that warm.
Tomorrow we are continuing south along the Blue Ridge Parkway and George Washington National Forest
Till next time... Happy Hiking 🥾
