Day 4 - Saturday January 16, 2021

We resumed  hiking after a 3 day break. We won’t be hiking continuously until I get back from bringing Jean to Florida and Beer Snob finishes work, around February 8th. We should have New York done by then.

The current temperature is 39° and the high is expected to reach 45°- unseasonably a little warm. Which makes layering more difficult; you have to switch out wet layers from sweating and carry additional clothes or not and deal with it. This is one luxury or advantage we have by not camping on the trail every night  is that we can carry extra clothes which is extra weight and not be as concerned about that๐Ÿ˜‰.  And today it’s currently raining so we are waiting a couple hours for it to pass before we start hiking. Again, another luxury of going back to our vehicles regularly.

I got my new trail shoes, Salomon X Ultra 3 w/gor-tex, an ankle high trail sneaker. They are much lighter than my Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX boots so I’m excited to see how they perform. I wore them walking the other day and they felt great. I’ll be switching back and forth between the them along with my Merrell MOAB 2’s (another ankle high trail sneaker).

Today’s  hike will be from Long Hill Road where we left off the last time to Dennytown Road for a total of 11.1 miles. We started hiking at 10:48 AM – little later than we expected or wanted.

Just another "Walk in the Woods"... Welcome back fellas!

Stopped for lunch at 1:38 pm.  We’ve done approximately 6.3 miles so we’re over halfway; making pretty good time considering we’ve been out less than three hours.

That was nice of the Trail Angels to build these steps for us- Grazie Mille.

Overlook at Canopus Lake.

A solemn remembrance... we will never forget.

I changed my socks around the 8 mile mark just as a precaution. Socks were slightly damp with perspiration and feet were fine! Felt like $1M after changing my socks. I think I’ll will just normally change my socks every day at our mid day break. Learning something new everyday or is it being reminded of something I forgot rather?  I figure by the time we get to the Smoky’s  we will have our routine down to a science. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

We finished at 4:13 pm, averaging over  2 mph. Think we are starting to get our “trail legs”. Stayed overcast most of the day but he sun did come out for about 15-20 minutes which was a welcome sight!  The high temperature for the day was 43°.

Till next time... Happy Hiking ๐Ÿฅพ
